Fishbowl
(2023)
Topology and Keyframes
For this project, we purchased a 3D fish model. However, the model’s topology wasn’t suited for a cloth sim that I wanted to add to the fins for added realism. So I completely retopologized the fins. Retopology is the process of redefining the mesh of the 3D model. In this case, because I wanted to add a cloth simulation to the fins, I transformed the many polygons into squares.
This is the timeline for the animation keyframes. Each dot represents a motion.
3D Motion Tracking
To properly place the fish into the scene, I needed to 3D motion track each shot. This scene is where the fish is revealed.
On set, I placed several tracking markers under the fishbowl. However, the scene begins with the sink out of frame, so I also had to find and place markers elsewhere in the scene in order to solve. The way Blender operates, it requires 8 markers to be active at a given moment in order to solve.
